Hello World and Happy Friday!
It has been a while since my last entry and am sorry considering the fact I said I would write a new entry every week.
It is Friday, February the 28th. In two days I will be leaving with nine other students on a twenty-four day trip to Zambia, Africa. We will spend part of the time helping out at a women's shelter in Lusaka as well as a near by orphanage. Towards the end of the trip we will be going on safari and visiting Victoria Falls. I am so excited! I can't believe how soon it is! Going to Africa is one of the top things on my bucket list and have wanted to go for a while now.
When thinking about my trip to Africa I came up with the very important topic of "Being adventurous" This is the way to live your life; by doing things that push you outside of your comfort zone but always giving you something to look forward to. This is a simple life lesson I took from my Grandma Zink "Always having something to look forward to" People are often given opportunities but may not always take them because of the fact that they might make them uncomfortable. Why not just try something new? You never know what you will discover!
A year ago in February I ran a half marathon with my Mom in Disney World. Up until that point I always hated running. The reason being because I never did it and was only ever forced to in gym class. By taking the challenge to train for the race and then running in the race I discovered a new passion. I love racing. I don't necessarily try to win but the adrenaline and sense of accomplishment I feel during the race is one of the best feelings for me. I loved it so much I ran in a mud run in April of 2013 and a 5K in December of 2013 and am currently training for a 10K in April this year.
I found a new passion of mine all because I was given an opportunity and went for it. What I say is that "You only have one life so why not make it one worth living. Take chances. Do things that make you uncomfortable. Life should be one big adventure as well as a journey to find out who you are." Going to Africa will definitely open my eyes and give me new way of looking at life. I have never been to a third world country but I know that it will be a life changing experience.
I am so excited and will definitely write another entry when I return at the beginning of April.
